Our Lady of Carmel School

Our Lady of Carmel School

The project “Our Lady of Carmel” was born in August 2018 after the educational emergency that has affected many Iraqi children who cannot attend Jordanian schools, remaining without any education of school age. Therefore, thanks to the support of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem , the Vatican Embassy in Amman, the English NGO ICIN and the parishes of St. Joseph in Jabal Amman and Our Lady of Carmel in Hashmi Shamali, it has been possible to guarantee the access to education to 350 children during the 2019/2020 academic year. For the year 2019/2020, Habibi Valtiberina Association has supported the school through an additional contribution by the French Embassy in Amman, which supports about 450 children.

The informal school for Iraqi children is part of the circuit of 25 Jordanian schools of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and is located in the neighborhood of Hashmi Shamali, a particularly poor area with a greater concentration of Iraqi refugees. The project aims to continue supporting the informal school to cope with the educational emergency affecting Iraqi children of school age, raising educational and pedagogical standards, improving the infrastructure and tools available and taking care of teacher training.
