The Santangelo clinic is a health and integration project promoted by Habibi Association and
funded by Mennonite Central Committee. Its goal is to provide sanity assistance and education to asylum seekers and vulnerable communities in Amman, in the Marka borough, which holds a high density of Iraqi refugees.

The clinic opened in 2023 thanks to the generous donation of Dr. Eugenia Santangelo in
memory of her brother Graziano, and is being financed by the MCC since April 2025.

ACTIVITIES

The clinic offers a series of services necessary to reach goals of social integration and access to
basic healthcare.

  1. Primary care provision

The infrastructure consists of two rooms completely equipped and renovated. Here, for 12 hours a week, people can receive medical consultations provided by a general practitioner and a nurse. Patients receive treatments and medications and, when needed, are referred to other specialists, with any associated costs covered by the project.

  1. Health promotion and education

To enhance health literacy, in line with the third Millennium Development Goal on health and well-being, the project includes a series of meetings with experts and the dissemination of informational materials. These activities also focus on topics relevant to women and families of persons with disabilities. The first meeting, attended by 50 women and dedicated to “Mental Health and Psychological Support” was held in Marka on Wednesday, 22 October.

RESULTS:

Since the beginning of the project 511 people have increased their access to primary healthcare, of which 54% are Jordan, 41% Iraqi and the rest of other nationalities. Out of those 511, 199 were women, 156 men and 156 children.
